The Power of Women Hoping for Peace

Was held on March 8th, 2018 at Mehmet Akif Ersoy Hall in Beytepe Campus, Hacettepe University.


On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the screening and forum event of digital stories entitled “THE POWER OF WOMEN HOPING FOR PEACE” was held with the joint effort of Hacettepe University Faculty of Communication and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on March 8th, 2018 at Mehmet Akif Ersoy Hall in Beytepe Campus, Hacettepe University. 

In addition to eight digital storytelling workshop participant refugee women, about forty refugee women participated the event with the cooperation of UNHCR and SGDD-ASAM Mamak Office. After the opening remarks of Katharina Lumpp, UNHCR Representative in Turkey, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Şimşek, Acting-Dean of Faculty of Communication and Coordinator of Digital Storytelling Workshop Unit, the screening of digital stories was held. 

The digital stories that were told at the end of two days they spent at Hacettepe University Digital Storytelling Workshop Unit by refugee women from Syria and Iraq Through making connections to spices such as thyme, cinnamon, sesame, red pepper, curcuma, a blend of powdered thyme, bay leaf and sumac, eight refugee women shared their everyday life experience in their home countries and Turkey.

In the forum event that followed the screening of digital stories, starting with the comments of participant eight refugee women, audience shared their comments and ideas, asking questions about everyday life and refugee experiences.
